India’s biggest container handling port JNPT has been trying to build the 4th terminal for many years. The nearly two kilometer long quay length will boast of many latest STS cranes. Finally four bidders have submitted RFP:
- DP World – Dubai
- PSA International – Singapore
- Sterlite Industries – India
- Adani Enterprises and GVK - India
ESSAR and Lanco Infratech — two other shortlisted bidders — have opted out of the race.
However, the bids are unlikely to be opened due to court restrictions. A case filed by AP Moller-Maersk Group (APM). APM has been barred to bid by JNPT due to ‘security reasons’. Bids will be kept in abeyance till a green light from the court is not received.
APM had contested its disqualification in the Bombay High Court, but after losing the case it had appealed to the Supreme Court last year. Gateway Terminals, a joint venture of APM Terminals and the Container Corporation of India, operates the third container terminal at JNPT.
