CRANES: Vizag port & L&T big crane contract to Kone

Visakha Container Terminal Private Limited (VCTPL) is buying cranes from Finland-based Kone Cranes. Kone will supply 2 RMQC (ship-to-shore). The terminal recently also signed another agreement with Kone for supply of 4 RTGSs.

The cranes would be supplied in the next 16 months. The RTGSs will have a lifting capacity of 41 T.

In May 2010, Kone received an order for a single boom shipyard crane from L&T Shipbuilding. The crane will be delivered early 2011.

L&T is a USD 9.8 billion technology, engineering and construction group, with global operations. It is one of the largest and most respected companies in India’s private sector. The company has one shipyard in Gujarat, West India and is building a new one at Kattupalli, South India. L&T Shipbuilding focuses on the construction of niche vessels such as specialized heavy lift cargo vessels, CNG carriers, chemical tankers and other role specific vessels.

Kone has in Indian manufacturing base set up three years back.
