HYDRO: 2700MW Lower Siang To Start 2011

Work on the 2700-MW Lower Siang HEP in Arunachal Pradesh, to be developed by Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited (JPVL), a subsidiary of private company Jaypee expected to begin in 2011. Techno Economic Clearance (TEC) is in place. Environmental clearance is expected by this year end.

Expected cost US$4.5Billion power project will be developed in two stages: Stage 1. 1500 MW and Stage 2. 1200 MW.

Stage 1. to be in 2017 and Stage 2. another 3-4 years later. The designing and layout of the project has been completed.

Around 200 workers are stationed at the project site and preliminary works, like constructing offices and makeshift quarters will start soon. He said that mobilisation of machineries and equipment had also begun.

Other Greenfield HEP projects by JP 500 MW Hirong also in Arunachal Pradesh. Detailed Project Report has been prepared.

Investigations are going on preparing the DPRs for the 450-MW Kynshi II and 270-MW Umgot hydro power projects, which were awarded by the Meghalaya government a few months back.

To support these projects and other infrastructure development Jaypee Group is set to sign the joint venture agreement with Assam Mineral Development Corporation (AMDC), a government of Assam undertaking, for a new cement plant in Assam of capacity 2 million tons.
