The leaders of Korea and India yesterday agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a strategic partnership paving the way for enhanced cooperation on security, diplomacy and global affairs.
President Lee Myung-bak and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also pledged to more than double the bilateral trade to $30 billion by 2014 from an estimated $12.2 billion in 2009 cashing in on a free trade agreement which took effect on Jan. 1.
Lee explored the possibility of civil nuclear energy cooperation for Seoul's entry to India's potential $150 billion atomic power market. The leaders also committed to enhanced partnership in infrastructure, information and communications, finance, knowledge-based services, defense, science and space technology.
